Famous Budapest Spring Festival celebrates the spring for the 30th time

Once again the most famous artists of the world will perform in the capital of Hungary and well known creators will exhibit their works in one of the twenty-two galleries.

This year is a Ferenc Erkel commemorative year as well, the famous composer was born 200 years ago. The Festival's major proposal is to present as completely as possible Erkel's work. Six of his operas are in the programme: László Hunyadi, Bank ban, and such rarely heard works as Sarolta, György Dózsa, Mária Bátori and György Brankovics.

 Royal Danish Ballet

The main guest of the Festival is Denmark, Denmark who could be a good example for Hungary. Both countries are small, but the Nordic country has made and is still making an unforgettable mark in the world’s culture contesting the limits of a small country. The Budapest Spring Festival will present the contemporary artistic experiments of Denmark (PowerGames – exhibition in the Ludwig Museum about the role of contemporary art) and its great artistic success of the past.

The program features performances of the Royal Danish Ballet (one of the oldest ballet companies of the world), of the Danish National Orchestra conducted by Ádám Fischer, of the Ars Nova Coppenhagen choir, the Danish National Chamber Orchestra, and of the Hotel Pro Forma ensemble among other world famous artists.

The organizers also concentrate on the music of the 19th century; the public can enjoy the music of Chopin, Schuman, Erkel, Liszt, Verdi, Wagner presented by a whole series of world stars. But young Hungarian talents can be seen as well, the Spring Festival gives them the chance to make themselves known.
