Zinneke Parade - 22 May 2010
12:33:09 28.04.2010
The Zinneke Parade has been appearing biennially on the streets of Brussels since the year 2000. It is a street opera of music, choreography, costumes and floats - all done without combustion engines or deafening music.

The Zinneke Parade was first created in the framework of Brussels 2000, European Capital of Culture. It was born from a desire to organize a big party in the city that would build bridges between the city centre and Brussels’ 18 districts. All socio-cultural organizations were mobilized to collaborate.

The first Parade was emotionally charged and full of joy, creating many great memories. The idea was to showcase the multicultural richness of Brussels neighbourhoods and restore connection between its fragmented districts. The Parade is one of the only Brussels 2000 events that became a perennial adventure!

At the beginning of 2009, Zinneke called on you to vote for the Parade’s new theme. « A table/Aan tafel » is now yours. A colorful parade with actors, dancers, musicians and other creative "Bruxellois" will invade the town and throw a party for the Zinneke, symbol of cultural diversity in Brussels. An orchestra, giant puppets, hip-hop, theatre,... all kinds of entertainment are to be found at this biennial event.
